我的主，我的神，我不知道我要往哪裡去；我看不到前面的路，我無法確定它會在哪裡結束。我也不真正認識自己，我認為我正在遵行你的旨意，可是這並不意味著我真實在這樣做。
但我相信，要討你喜悅的渴望，是討你喜悅的。我盼望在一切所做的事上都有這樣的渴望，我也盼望我永不會在缺少這種渴望之下做任何事。我知道，如果我帶著討你喜悅的渴望來行事，你必引導我走上正路，即使我不自知走在正路上。
因此，即使我似乎迷失了方向，並處在死蔭幽谷中，我總是能信靠你。我不害怕，因為你永遠與我同在，你絕不會讓我獨自面對危險。
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following Your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that, if I do this, You will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore I will trust You always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for You are ever with me, and You will never leave me to face my perils alone.（靈修大師牟頓Thomas Merton）
