當年神在西奈山頒布十誡律法時，在火中、雲中、幽暗中，以及雷轟、閃電、角聲中，神大聲曉喻以色列百姓；但今天，基督的救恩是在釘十字架的軟弱、墳墓的安靜，以及神羔羊的柔順中成全的，卻比律法的頒布更加可畏。

如果在神以溫柔伸出拯救的手時，我們不謙卑領受，有一天神顯出祂的榮耀威嚴而來時，我們當如何行呢？今天主以溫柔對待我們，父母對兒女、上司對下屬也該如此；以溫柔和恩慈待人，不要常藉著疾言厲色來使人懾服，而是以溫柔與恩慈來使人折服。

聖經裡所羅門王說：柔和的舌頭能折斷骨頭。大衛對神說：你的溫和使我為大。

神的兒子到世上來的時候，不是以外貌表現尊貴榮耀；事實上基督道成肉身時，先知說祂無佳形美容，也無美貌使我們羨慕祂。神想要我們不用肉體形質，不用外貌來看事物，而是用神永恆的眼光來看。

眾先知多方地講，描述這一面、那一面，但基督來到時，才是完滿實體。眾先知一點一點地講，逐步拼湊成一幅基督畫像；但基督來到，也就是聖誕節的故事，讓我們一舉認識祂、得著祂，然後逐日在祂裡面更認識祂。

先知的啟示像是逐漸累積寶物，基督來到則使我們進入寶庫中，逐日探索、發現、享受已擁有之寶藏。

人總是注目可見事物，期待短期獲利；但神一向慢條斯理，氣定神閒地做事，有時甚至看起來安靜著，沒在做什麼工似的。祂用時間來讓我們學習永恆時空的事。

天使是聖經舊約時代最突出、最吸引目光的人物，每次有天使顯現，都叫人轉頭注目，而且留意到神要做什麼奇妙偉大的事。天使顯然可以一忽兒讓人看到他，一忽兒又消失不見；用今天的科學概念來思考，或許天使活在更高維的時空。神也是能自由往來各個時空界面。

每當天使顯現時，人都會感受到尊貴、威嚴、能力、美麗、榮耀，如同神一般。他們是神的使者，但聖經希伯來書的作者說，神子耶穌基督所承受的名，遠比天使更尊貴。
